Krystle Patel
Krystle Patel is a London-based Asian artist born in Texas. She uses writing, sound and textile to create moving image works and site-specific installations that interrogate the construction and value of relationships through language.
Describing her practice, Patel says: “My practice exists in time and is intentionally slippery and evasive. Research forms the basis of my process relying on experimentation, intuition and conversation. I am interested in language, where it is full and where it is empty, it’s most abstract and literal forms, language as alive and with limitations.”
Forma was also delighted to welcome Krystle to the Associate Artists Programme. The Forma Associate Artists programme is a professional development initiative for artists and cultural thinkers to have a continued working relationship with the organisation beyond the conventional commissioning and exhibition model.
Patel joins the programme following multiple moments of collaboration with Forma over the last few years: initially for her publication launch and screening of Closed Circuit Systems: Space Madness in May 2024, which was curated by Rebecca Edwards and supported with funding from UCL public art. Patel was also announced as the recipient of the 2024 Goldsmiths' Alumni Commission Award, realised in partnership with Forma, Goldsmiths Exhibition Hub and LADA. Her resulting multi-stranded performance Hover, Horror was presented at FormaHQ in November 2024.
Antonia Shaw, Head of Programmes, Forma, says:
Forma is really thrilled to continue to support Krystle. Her practice brings together different disciplines and ways of thinking to explore urgent political and social questions. Whether through live performance, language, publishing, sculpture, or moving image, Krystle approaches each project with openness, collaboration, and a sharp critical eye, creating work that challenges how we see and invites us to think differently.
Patel is currently working towards a new research and performative project, following on from her performance Hover, horror, and more recently A Mating Game, a site-specific installation and series of open rehearsals that took place at The Koppel Project last month.
