Whispering in the Leaves is an extraordinary sound installation that immerses visitors in the dynamic, spacial soundscape of the Central and South American rainforests, derived from Chris Watson’s extensive archive of wildlife and on-location recordings.
Designed specifically for installation inside botanical greenhouses and gardens, Whispering in the Leaves features two sound pieces – Dawn and Dusk – transmitted at hourly intervals throughout the day, echoing the transition between darkness and daylight in the dense tropical vegetation.
Chris Watson is a sound recordist specialising in natural history, with a particular and passionate interest in recording the wildlife sounds of animals, habitats and atmospheres from around the world. Renowned for his award-winning wildlife sound recording work with David Attenborough on productions such as The Life of Birds and The Life of Mammals, Watson was also a founding member of pioneering electric groups Cabaret Voltaire and the Halfer Trio, and has since released several solo and collaborative experimental music projects on Touch.
