with Richard Court & Daniella Valz Gen

Peveril Gardens Open Day
with Richard Court & Daniella Valz Gen
Saturday 1 June, 15:00-18:00

For the second instalment of Forma’s Garden Open Days, join resident artist Daniella Valz Gen and artist and Head of Peveril Gardens, Richard Court for an afternoon of conversation, workshops and tours of the garden.

Perceiving the Multifaceted: An Observational Workshop, 15:30-16:30
Richard Court will lead a recently developed workshop focused on unlocking new ways of experiencing and being present in green spaces. Taking the garden as inspiration, the workshop will feature guided visualisation, silent walk, sketching and mark making followed by a collective discussion.

Mending Circle, 16:45-18:00
Daniella Valz Gen will lead a collective garment mending session with reflective readings on the labour and material effects of practices of repair. Bring any garments that need mending and sit alongside others in Peveril Gardens to patch them, darn them or stitch them back as we share poems and songs.

Garden Tours, 15:00 & 17:00
Richard Court will lead introductions to the garden, sharing knowledge about how to identify plants and the work that goes into maintaining this rooftop oasis.

Artist Biographies

Process-led, Daniella Valz Gen’s work deploys an oracular approach that engages with the realm of the symbolic through a tactile sensitivity, disrupting and queering forms of meaning making to challenge linear narratives. Born in Peru and based in London, Valz Gen’s work explores poetic experience in the interstices between languages, cultures and value systems as areas where potential new meanings can arise.

Richard Court is a multidisciplinary performing artist trained in dance, theatre, and music. He has toured nationally and internationally in varied works ranging from contemporary dance to live art, theatre and music theatre.

Beyond his performance based practice, Richard has begun to cultivate a career in horticulture and garden design from his long-held interest. From the outset, Richard played an important role in the development of FormaHQ and Peveril Gardens - taking part in the design consultancy stages and in conversation with Nigel Dunnett, maintaining the garden since 2019. He also leads our group of volunteer gardeners who lend their vital skills and knowledge to the ongoing care of the space.
