Bruno is a solo presentation by London-based artist James Jordan Johnson, marking the culmination of his year-long residency at FormaHQ, which was supported by New Contemporaries. The exhibition brings together sculpture and organic matter found within South London - along with a new moving-image and photography work.
Across Bruno, journeys, objects and images become ways of thinking through forms of memorialisation and memory. Johnson continues his exploration of the metaphysics of witnessing, considering how slowness and opacity might produce alternative readings within Blackness and the everyday. The title refers to the British boxer Frank Bruno, the colour brown and dusk as a visual register: a threshold at which forms become less fixed and other ways of seeing might emerge.

James Jordan Johnson is an artist from London working in performance, photography, film and sculpture. He is interested in the metaphysics of witnessing and how registers of slowness might produce alternative readings within Blackness. He uses pre-existing or self-established forms of opacity in relation to events of personal and collective memorialisation.
